Quarter of a century without you - a whole century backwards

On May 4, 1980 the big heart stopped beating and the lives of Yugoslavs were changed forever. Comrade Josip Broz Tito, Supreme Commander of the Yugoslav Peoples Army, Chairmen of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, National Hero of Yugoslavia died in Ljubljana just three days before his 88th birthday.

This international statesmen and ingenious Socialist figure is honoured all around Yugoslavia and Acadame North as people put the horrible Balkan wars of the 90's behind them and remember "the good old days," the days when Yugoslavs swore allegiance to brotherhood and unity and achieved goals nations much larger could not accomplish. Not only was Marshal Tito a hero of the Second World war, a war that would have lasted much longer without his leadership of the Yugoslav Partisans, but he was an international statesmen, a man respected by the peoples of Africa, Asia, the Middle east and Europe. Tito showed the world that there are more than one path to Socialism and that the path of independence, is a respectable one. Yugoslavia's departure from the Stalin's Eastern bloc was just the beginning of Comrade Tito's determinacy to encourage independence. The non ailment movement showed his work to promote world peace and to never support the nations which both threatened the world with nuclear Holocaust.

The Balkan wars have long past but we simply can not leave the ideals of such a statesmen and a hero in the house of the flowers. Comrade Tito's Socialist ideology of brotherhood and unity, self management and self reliance is a model tothe world and is something the SFRAN is has implemented with success.
A tribute is still made in the SFRAN on MAy 4 at 3 as a wreath is layed at the monument of Comrade Marshal Tito and a day of national remembrance commences.
Marhsal Tito's humble beginnings and dedication to fighting both Fascism and totalitarianism is something that we can learn from as the world today fights a new fascism. A quote from the President of the SFRAN said, "(Tito) a quarter of a century without you - a whole century backwards" we can hope that after 28 years our Comrades ideals will remain in the minds of the next generation.

This is the News in Yugoslavia that day 28 years ago.
